2nd Debate in Question As Trump Refuses Virtual Format

These issues, the candidates' records and much more were scheduled to be contended over the course of late September and October in three presidential debates and one vice presidential debate.

The Centers for Disease Control guidelines say a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 should be isolated for at least 10 days.

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Thursday morning that next week's debate between Democratic nominee Joe Biden and President Donald Trump-who is infected with the coronavirus-will be held virtually "in order to protect the health and safety of all involved".

But the whole event has now been thrown into doubt after Mr Trump said he would not due the debate in a virtual form.

Asked about the announcement on Fox Business, Trump said, "That's not acceptable to me".

"I'm not going to do a virtual debate", he declared. I'm not going to waste my time on a virtual debate.

Trump's campaign also released an official statement in which they stated that "canceling an in-person debate is pathetic" and rather than partake in a virtual debate they'll hold an in-person rally. Along with Trump, the first lady and several members of Trump's administration - including senior aide Hope Hicks, and White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany - have also tested positive for the virus.

Vice President Pence's team had reportedly fought the decision to install plexiglass barriers at last night's vice presidential debate. In a document released by the White House on August 10, the administration listed these as the key takeaways from Trump's response to the pandemic: "Took early action to cut off travel from China; Built the world's leading testing system from nothing; Enacted mitigation measures to slow the spread; mobilized public and private sectors to secure needed supplies; Took action to protect vulnerable Americans; Launched effort to deliver a vaccine and therapeutics in record time; Provided support to workers and businesses; Paved way for reopening to get America working again; Surged resources to hotspots as they arose; Confronted China as origin of the virus while Democrats and media cowered". On Monday night Trump told his Twitter followers not to be afraid of COVID-19, even though its killed more than 210,000 Americans to date.

Meanwhile, Harris like Biden, consistently wears a mask in public, encourages the American people to do the same, and argues that we must take the virus seriously.

Mr Biden's campaign then suggested the event be delayed a week until October 22, which is when the third and final debate was already scheduled.
