A separate law enforcement official told CNN that the convoy is believed to be organized by a group calling itself "Jews for Trump".

Attacks on the convoy were reported in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Physical and verbal altercations occurred on Sunday during a pro-Trump caravan in New York City, according to CBS New York.

Twelve people were arrested in connection with the clashes in three regions, according to a law enforcement official.

According to the Jews For Trump website, Sunday's rally was meant to show solidarity with "the beleaguered Red Zone community", a reference to the coronavirus hot spots designated by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, as areas where schools and nonessential businesses must close to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Charges include assault, disorderly conduct, useless risk and disruptive traffic.

In some videos, a group of people can be seen yelling expletives and throwing eggs and other projectiles at passing cars flying pro-Trump flags in Midtown, while in another, a group of people holding pro-Trump banners march on one side of the street as people across the street yell, "New York hates you".

New York Police Department Chief Terence Monahan announced on Sunday an investigation into the allegations of attacks against Trump supporters.

Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani greeted supporters from the passenger seat of a vehicle driving near Trump Tower during the parade.

The caravan traveled from Coney Island to the Trump Tower in Manhattan before heading to a rally in a Brooklyn park. Police were heard trying to contain the protesters on the sidewalk during the exchange.
