The BBC's biggest earners as salaries of top stars revealed by broadcaster

Gary Lineker takes pay cut in new five year deal with the BBC

United Kingdom broadcaster BBC has garnered criticism for the millions paid in salaries to high profile on-air talent such as ex-soccer player and current sport pundit Gary Lineker.

GARY LINEKER HAS taken a pay cut and signed a new five-year contract with the BBC.

Lineker said today: "I love working with the BBC, and am very proud to continue to be a part of their outstanding football team".

Davie said new rules would be across genres but "I do think the bar is higher, for current affairs and news". "That's a question for Gary", he said.

"This is not about a ban on social media, it's about whether what's happening on social media is helping us build our reputation on impartiality".

The newly published list features some pay rises and more women in the top 10.

More than 18,000 people complained to the BBC over the broadcast, in which social affairs correspondent Fiona Lamdin repeated a racial slur allegedly used in a suspected racially-motivated attack in Bristol.

Radio 2 DJ Steve Wright is on about £475,000.

Newsreader for News at Six, News at Ten and presenter of election night and news specials.

BBC Radio London's Vanessa Feltz is on about £405,000.

Host of BBC 6 Music Breakfast Show, 6 Music Recommends, Radio 4's Desert Island Discs and Mercury Music Prize.

The Nolan Show host on Radio Ulster, Nolan Live on BBC One (Northern Ireland), The Stephen Nolan Show on 5 Live.

Topping the list is former footballer turned pundit Gary Lineker, who earned a cool €1.9m for his work on popular shows like Match of the Day and the Premier League.

The BBC previously opposed the publication of salaries as a "poacher's charter", but then-boss Lord Hall later said he welcomed the "transparency".

The BBC began means-testing the free TV licence for over-75s in August, having previously delayed its introduction because of the pandemic.
