LeBron, Giannis unanimously selected to All-NBA First Team
The NBA has announced the All-NBA Teams, headlined by Giannis Antetokounmpo and James as unanimous selections.
Luka Doncic became the first Dallas Mavericks player to earn All-NBA First Team honors since Dirk Nowitzki in 2009, but could have earned another distinction if not for the coronavirus pandemic.
With longtime All-NBA stalwarts such as Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin and Kyrie Irving missing most, if not all, of this season because of injuries, several openings among the 15 selections were filled by first-time honorees, including Doncic, Tatum, Simmons and Siakam. The Slovenian star received 59 votes for the First Team, 40 for the Second Team and 1 for the third team. That breaks the all-time record that was set by fellow Lakers legends Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the late Kobe Bryant and San Antonio Spurs great Tim Duncan.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard, Denver center Nikola Jokic, Portland guard Damian Lillard, Oklahoma City guard Chris Paul and Toronto forward Pascal Siakam were on the second team.
The 2019-20 All-NBA Third Team is comprised of Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum (153), Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler (147), Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert (110), Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons (61) and Rockets guard Russell Westbrook (56). His dominant season saw him lead the National Basketball Association in assists for the first time in his career.
For James, it's a league-record 13th appearance on the first team. Players were awarded five points for each vote to the All-NBA First Team, three points for each vote to the Second Team and one point for each vote to the Third Team. He led the entire league in dimes this season.
