Five red cards as Marseille beat PSG in bad-tempered game

Andre Ayew with former Olympique Marseille teammates

Neymar was sent off following a video replay showing he aimed a jab to the back of Gonzalez's head.

Tempers erupted in time added on after Paredes' shove on Benedetto.

The 33-year-old shared a picture of French rap group Bande Organisée, but with the members' heads replaced by those of some Marseille players and coach Andre Villas-Boas, while Neymar's head has been photoshopped onto the body of a dog being held by Alvaro Gonzalez.

"The only thing I regret is not hitting that idiot in the face", in reference to Alvaro.

The match finished 9 v 8, with Neymar, Leandro Paredes, Laywin Kurzawa, Dario Benedetto, and Jordan Amavi red-carded in stoppage time.

"VAR catching my "aggression" is easy. That's why I hit him", Neymar said as he left the pitch. "Racism in life, in all domains, in sport, should not exist".

PSG voiced their support of Neymar and called for an investigation from French football's authorities, while Marseille insisted Gonzalez is not a racist and claim he has received death threats after his phone number was leaked.

Thauvin, who shone in Marseille's opening 3-2 win at Brest before the global break, made the breakthrough when he turned in a Dimitri Payet free-kick from point-blank range.

Marseille ended a 20-game winless run against PSG when Florian Thauvin met Payet's free-kick to divert past Sergio Rico.

The returning players ensured PSG started the better side and could have taken the lead three minutes into the match after Idriss Gueye beat his marker and unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the box but Steve Mandanda in goal made a superb save. It condemned PSG, who were last season's UEFA Champions League runners-up, to their second straight league defeat after they suffered a 1-0 opening day setback at Lens.

"The fight is something very serious".

Angel Di Maria's effort for PSG was ruled out in the 62nd minute. "We'll have to look at it".
