Bucks tell Giannis Antetokounmpo they will spend to build around him

Bucks owner makes promises to Giannis Antetokounmpo with free agency looming

Milwaukee Bucks co-owner and governor Marc Lasry told Giannis Antetokounmpo that the team is willing to spend into the luxury tax to provide him with more help, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. It is also being noted that the Bucks intent to speak to Giannis again after he takes a well-deserved vacation. "I plow through it", Antetokounmpo said, per Haynes. We're going to keep working.

Milwaukee was eliminated by the Miami Heat in five games after putting forth the best regular-season record in the National Basketball Association for a second straight season. They also explored potential personnel upgrades that may be available to the franchise this upcoming offseason.

Friday's meeting coincided with Antetokounmpo unfollowing nearly everyone on social media. He has unfollowed swaths of people in the past and has at times temporarily deleted his accounts - something that happened for four days in January after Bryant's death. However, this off-season he does have the chance to sign a super-max extension worth around $254 million over five years - which the Bucks are reportedly planning to offer him once free agency begins. The supermax is 35% of the salary cap beginning in the 2021-22 season, a number that is not yet clear because of the league's losses during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lasry and Antetokounmpo met Friday in Milwaukee.

The Bucks are committed to building and sustaining a championship roster around Antetokounmpo and are expected to be one of the busiest teams this offseason.
