U.S. intelligence says Russia, China and Iran will attempt election interference

It also connects Moscow's disapproval of Biden to his role as vice president in shaping Obama administration policies supporting Ukraine, an important United States ally, and opposing Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Asked on Friday by a reporter whether he thought the intelligence was true, and what he would do about it, Trump said: "It could be, it could be very much".

"I think that the last person Russian Federation wants to see in office is Donald Trump because nobody's been tougher on Russian Federation than I have ever".

But the president seemed to agree with the intelligence indicating China didn't want him reelected.

Mr Trump expressed faith in this finding by officials, stating that: "If Joe Biden was president, China would own our country".

Evanina's statement was the most specific warning to date about the threat of foreign interference in the US presidential election. "The information should be declassified immediately".

The latest intelligence assessment reflects concerns to varying degrees about China, Russia and Iran, warning that hostile foreign actors may seek to compromise election infrastructure and interfere with the voting process.

Despite those efforts, officials see it as unlikely that anyone could manipulate voting results in any sweeping way, Evanina said.

The announcement on Friday by William Evanina, director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, raises fears of a repeat of the 2016 election when Russian Federation controlled social media to help Trump and hurt his adversary Hillary Clinton.

"Tehran's motivation to conduct such activities is, in part, driven by a perception that President Trump's reelection would result in a continuation of USA pressure on Iran in an effort to foment regime change".

That was President Trump's reaction Friday to an unusual public warning from America's top counterintelligence that Russian Federation is already trying to interfere in the 2020 race for the White House in favor of Trump.

On Thursday, the US announced a 10-million-dollar (N3.8 billion) reward for information on foreign interference in the electoral process.

Although the public version of the letter was less clear about the potential threat of foreign interference, Politico reported that a classified addendum mentions Johnson's investigation as a channel for "laundering" a foreign meddling campaign aimed at attacking Biden. "Joe Biden, on the other hand, has led the fight against foreign interference for years".

Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate greater part pioneer, stated: "It is no surprise our adversaries have preferences in our elections". But even after such a direct and public disclosure of Russian interference by United States officials, he was reluctant to affirm he believed in it, saying, "It could be".

In a separate statement, the Trump campaign said it did not want or need foreign assistance and said China and Iran were opposed to Trump because "he has held them accountable after years of coddling by politicians like Joe Biden".

"Do you think China may be a bigger threat?"

"P$3 ro-Russia Ukrainian parliamentarian Andriy Derkach is spreading claims about corruption - including through publicizing leaked phone calls - to undermine former Vice President Biden's candidacy and the Democratic Party", Evanina said. The Kremlin has consistently denied these allegations.
