Staff member at Burnaby long-term care home tests positive for COVID -19

Tourism businesses have taken a big hit amid pandemic restrictions particularly related to travel

Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, and Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, released Friday's numbers in a written statement.

Dix and Henry also confirmed an outbreak at Dania Home, a long-term care facility in Burnaby.

VCH collected samples at three long-term care homes during outbreaks of COVID-19 to better understand the extent to which environmental contamination occurs in long-term care settings.

Cases by health region since the start of the pandemic: 1,088 in Vancouver Coastal; 1,889 in Fraser; 144 in Island; 369 in Interior; 88 in Northern; and 63 people who reside outside of Canada.

The province recorded 50 COVID-19 cases and an outbreak at another care home ahead of the Friday before the B.C. Day long weekend, as well as another death. The individual is now in self-isolation at home, while a rapid response team is on-site and communicating with residents and families.

Health officials did not have any new community outbreaks to announce today. However, public health teams are continuing to support the ongoing outbreaks on Haida Gwaii, and at Fraser Valley Packers Inc.

It's the second time in as many weeks that the number of new cases has topped 50, while the daily average has hovered around 30 in the weeks since B.C. entered Phase 3 of its reopening plan.

Residents, families and staff are being notified, and staff and residents will be screened twice a day.

"Don't get stuck in self-isolation for 14 days, or worse - get sick, because you shared beers at a party or made out with someone with COVID-19", reads the guide.
