PGA Championship: Top shots from second round at TPC Harding Park

Bryson De Chambeau holds his broken driver on the seventh hole during the first round of the PGA Championship golf tournament at TPC Harding Park Thursday Aug. 6 2020 in San Francisco

Ridiculous hole-outs, super iron shots and a contender for save of the week all feature in the shots of the day from the second round of the PGA Championship.

PGA Tour star Marc Leishman said: 'I bet you could offer him £70m for it and he probably wouldn't take it'. They looked faster than what they were putting.

After carding a 67, compatriot Paul Casey is a shot further back with Brendon Todd, the joint overnight leader with Day, and Cameron Champ, who matched Fleetwood's low mark of 64.

Because the club was not damaged as a result of abuse from the player, DeChambeau was permitted the use of a replacement driver and, after a member of his team fetched a new club, the American continued his round and registered a two-under-par 68 for the round to finish the day three shots off the lead.

"I really struggled with getting the speed of the greens today", Woods said.

With only one bogey on his card through 36 holes, Li is off to a terrific start in what is only his fourth US PGA Championship. A total of two dozen players were separated by only five shots at the midway point.

And it looked like the golfing gods had rewarded McIlroy for his honesty when he rolled in four straight birdies from the 7th, only to give three of those back with a triple-bogey at 12 after a pulled drive and a three-putt from seven feet. He missed three more birdie putts from inside 15 feet on the front nine.

His sand wedge was no help.

The longer putter Woods credited for his success Thursday may be headed to the trunk of his rental vehicle for the weekend after the total length of the putts he made dropped precipitously from 115 feet to just 48 in round two.

But when asked if he thought he could still win this tournament, Woods responded as expected: "Yeah", he said. "I think the key on this course, you just need to hit as many fairways as you can, and especially putting and short game is quite important". He made the cut and will play on the weekend.

Woods said he was trying a different putter this week so he didn't have to bend over as much to make the stroke - another small way of alleviating pressure on his surgically repaired back. Either way, maybe the best thing he's got going for him Saturday is an early tee time.
