Ontario reports spike in new coronavirus cases as Toronto enters Stage 3

Ontario adds 134 new COVID-19 cases

Where are the new COVID-19 cases?

Ontario has 134 new cases - that's a jump from the 89 new cases the province saw on Thursday and 76 reported on Wednesday.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Waterloo Region remains at 1,385, including 1,231 resolved cases and 119 deaths. One additional child has tested positive from La Clementine Michel Dupuis for a total of four cases among children, plus two among staff members.

On Friday, the region also updated its testing numbers, something it does on Tuesdays and Fridays.

The health unit needs to be able to work with community leaders, adapt its COVID-19 messaging to different languages and cultures, and understand realities on the ground that might prevent people from being able to do things like stay home when they're sick or follow public health guidance about socializing safely during a pandemic, Etches noted.

Ontario's health minister is reporting another 26 cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa, making two full weeks of double-digit daily increases.

"While a slight uptick over the past two days, 28 of 34 PHUs are reporting five or fewer cases", reports Elliott. There are 26 new infections in Ottawa and 24 in Windsor-Essex.

Ontario processed over 30,000 COVID-19 tests over the last day.

With 168 more resolved, there are 34 fewer active cases in Ontario as hospitalizations also continue to decline. The province's death toll is now 2,775.
