COVID-19: Health officials announce 50 new cases, one new death
There have been 144 in Island Health, 369 in the Interior Health region, 88 in Northern Health and 63 cases in people who reside outside of Canada.
Dania Home is one of three facilities run by the Dania Home Society, Fraser Health said, but the outbreak is not connected to the other two.
The statement says there are now 3,641 COVID-19 cases in B.C. and 3,168 people have recovered.
Of the 50 new cases, five cases are epidemiologically-linked, meaning people who were never tested but were presumed to have COVID-19 because they developed symptoms and were close contacts of a laboratory-confirmed case. Of the total COVID-19 cases, five people are in hospital (no change from July 30), two of whom are in intensive care.
There are no new community outbreaks. Officials have noted that British Columbians should not have any health concerns related to the consumption of fruit from Fraser Valley Packers Inc.
The latter outbreak prompted the provincial government to announce Thursday that it would restrict non-resident travel to the archipelago. Community exposures continue to be seen across the province, for a list of community exposures events you can visit the government's website.
A notable climb in COVID-19 cases in the province were announced on the eve of a long weekend in the middle of summer. The remaining 45 are new positive tests for COVID-19.
Henry and Dix say the long weekend is an opportunity to find the balance between making social connections with friends and family while staying safe.
Those precautions include keeping groups small, using "layers of protection" and ensuring there is enough space for people to maintain physical distance from each other, Henry and Dix said. "Have a good time - safely".
