The United States has reported more than 3.1 million cases total and over 133,000 deaths from the virus, making some Americans hesitant to return to public spaces and patronize businesses despite President Donald Trump's efforts to downplay the risks.
That's significant because health experts have been watching states like Florida, where virus cases have risen dramatically over the past few weeks, to see if hospitalizations and deaths also spike.
Countries in Eastern Europe were among those facing rising waves of new infections, leading to riots in Serbia, mandatory face masks in Croatia and travel bans or quarantines imposed by Hungary. That's up from 67,988 reported Thursday, a 943-case increase.
Officially, the country has more than 18,000 confirmed infections and 382 deaths since March.
Deaths from COVID-19 have once again climbed to more than 600 per day, CNBC reported.
The figures don't necessarily account for delays in reporting of cases, and are believed to far underestimate actual case totals. Three weeks ago, Florida's weekly average for deaths stood at 30 per day. The state's health department cited a calculation error that combined two days of figures.
