Unidentified Remains Found During Search For Missing Fort Hood Soldier Vanessa Guillen

Unidentified remains found in same area as body of Fort Hood soldier

Officers were called to the field on Saturday afternoon after a citizen spotted the remains in Killeen, TX.

Kahwam clarified that Guillen's family is still waiting for official identification of the remains found Tuesday near the Leon River in Bell County, just 25 miles from Fort Hood, the U.S. Army post in Killeen.

The U.S. Army is confirming one suspect is under arrest and another is dead in the disappearance of a soldier in Central Texas. She is in Bell County Jail awaiting civilian authorities to press charges, CID said. The remains were sent to a forensic anthropologist for analysis and confirmed to be human.

Police have not released further information, and have not released the suspect's name. Her Military Occupational Specialty is a 91F, Small Arms/Artillery Repairer. Her auto keys, barracks room key, identification card, and wallet were later found in the armory room where she worked earlier that day. Lupe Guillen, her sister, told reporters. Investigators suspect foul play.

"The facts aren't good".

Attorney Natalie Khawam said during a news conference Wednesday in Washington, D.C., that evidence connects the remains to the missing soldier but provided no specifics.

Khawam has said the soldier told relatives, friends and colleagues before her disappearance that she was being sexually harassed by a sergeant at the base but did not formally report the matter for fear of retaliation. "How does someone disappear on a base that has more protection and safeguards than anyone else on the planet?" The civilian, an estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier, is now being held in the Bell County jail.

Kahwam has also been critical of the U.S. Army for its handling of both Vanessa Guillen's case and allegations she was being sexually harassed before she disappeared.

"There is still a lot of investigative work to be done and we ask for the public and media's patience", Army CID spokesman Chris Grey said. How about some more R29 goodness, right here?
