SpaceX Just Shared Inside-Scoop Video on Advanced Dragon Spacesuit Design

NASA to Provide Coverage of Astronauts' Return from Space Station on SpaceX Commercial Crew Test Flight

The Crew-2 astronauts will stay aboard the space station together with three crewmates that will start through a Russian Soyuz spacecraft, for about six months as excursion team members. The next crew is expected to launch in late September, then McArthur will follow with three other astronauts next year.

The European Space Agency said Tuesday it will launch SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida in spring 2021.

NASA has partnered with SpaceX and Boeing under the Commercial Crew programme. The agency revealed the four people that will fly aboard that launch, including two NASA astronauts, as well as one from the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and one from the European Space Agency (ESA). It denoted the first time in history that a commercial vehicle conveyed people into space and the first manned launch from United States soil since NASA's Space Shuttle retired in 2011.

SpaceX has given everyone an inside-scoop of the way it designs spacesuits and why - in a YouTube video describing them as unique spacesuits made to perfectly complement the Dragon spacecraft on functional and aesthetic levels. McArthur operated the shuttle's robotic arm over the course of the 12 days and 21 hours she spent in space, capturing the telescope and moving crew members during the five spacewalks needed to fix and upgrade it.

The successful flight marked the first commercial vehicle that carried a human crew into orbit and the first crewed launch that took place in America since the Space Shuttle Program was retired nearly a decade ago, forcing NASA to pay expensive fees for seats aboard flights operated by Rocosmos in the meantime. In total, the retired Army colonel has spent 189 days in space and conducted six spacewalks.

Mr Hoshide from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has been to space twice. He was part of the STS-124 mission aboard space shuttle Discovery in 2008 and a crew member for Expeditions 32 and 33, launching aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft in 2012 for a 124-day visit to the station.

SpaceX's Crew-2 mission will mark his third flight into space. Rubins, who is 41, spent 115 days on the station in 2016.

During his mission, he took part in more than 50 experiments and two spacewalks to maintain the space station.
