Province Announces Plan for Upcoming School Year

Ashland School District students will start the school year remote-only

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul public schools, for example, will start the year with distancing learning. "I know my kids want to go back to school very much, but depending what they come down with, we'll let mom make that decision whether or not they're going to go".

Most students in the Ashland School District will start their year away from the classroom, school officials announced on Thursday.

The governor has offered three different scenarios: Distance learning, in-person classes, or a hybrid of the two. "I don't have the capacity to bring them to school everyday".

"I am making the recommendation that we open the school year with remote instruction for all students with a plan to phase in students to in-person learning as soon as possible, starting with students with the highest needs", said Deiter.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS talked with Education Minnesota President Denise Specht.

One of the biggest concerns she hears from parents is the lack of availability of laptops for students learning from home.

"Most parents want to plan, so not being able to plan, and things can change the week before, it's hard to be able to figure it out and be able to explain to my kids what's going on with their school", Sager said.

School districts across OR have been scrambling to adjust their fall plans following the reveal on Tuesday of the state's coronavirus metrics, which will only allow for in-person instruction if certain benchmarks are met.

"We have received multiple updates on the blueprint requirements throughout summer and important revisions that must be addressed to incorporate a more robust Distance Learning model", the District said.
