The sunshine state on Thursday reported almost 9,000 new COVID-19 cases and at least 120 coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total cases to more than 232,000 with over 4,000 coronavirus-related deaths in the state, said the report.

ABC News is reporting that according to an internal FEMA memo it obtained, there are 56 hospitals in Florida that do not have any available intensive-care-unit beds.

California has also seen a spike in coronavirus cases, with all-time highs in hospitalizations and a more than 2% increase in Los Angeles.

Florida's coronavirus cases have soared in the last month, with the state's daily count topping 10,000 three times in the last week.

The sickest COVID patients require precious and increasingly elusive ICU beds including ventilators, round-the clock care and specially-trained staff.

Florida is now facing a surge in COVID-19 cases, with more than 20,000 people testing positive since Sunday.
