More meetings expected to defuse border tension between India and China

The talks took put on the Indian aspect of Line of Real Regulate (LAC) in Chushul sector in jap Ladakh wherein India has put a solid concept that to China's People's Liberation Military (PLA) troops have not aided by the disengagement consensus.

After physically occupying an nearly 8-km stretch of what India considers its territory on the north bank of Pangong Tso in eastern Ladakh, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has now created a massive signage in the area to claim it as Chinese land.

The Indian Army's Lieutenant General Harinder Singh met his counterpart from the Chinese Army Major General Liu Lin of the South Xinjiang Military Region on the Indian side. The last two meetings at Corp Commander level had been held on June 6 and June 22.

Meanwhile, Indian and Chinese militaries yesterday held an over 10-hour Corps Commander-level dialogue with a focus on finalising modalities for the disengagement of troops from various standoff points in eastern Ladakh, and explored ways to ease tension in the region, government sources said.

There has been no discussion on the ground between junior military commanders since June 22 when the Corps Commanders reached "mutual consensus to disengage" while discussing "friction areas" such as Galwan Valley, Hot Springs and Pangong Tso.

China has been claiming the Galwan Valley on its side of the Line of Actual Control after the violent face-off at patrolling point 14 on 15 June, when 20 Indian soldiers were killed. The Chinese side also suffered casualties during this incident, but they have not come out with details yet.

The first two rounds of Corps Commander-level talks that had taken place at Moldo on the Chinese side of the LAC had remained inconclusive. The IAF has also moved air defence systems as well as a sizeable number of its frontline combat jets and attack helicopters to several key air bases.

However, the situation deteriorated following the Galwan Valley clashes as the two sides significantly bolstered their deployments in most areas along the LAC.

Indian officials say the current standoff began in early May when large contingents of Chinese soldiers entered deep inside Indian-controlled territory at three places in Ladakh, erecting tents.
