How to watch the 'Independence Day' lunar eclipse

Epoch Times

A penumbral lunar eclipse (upchaya chandra grahan in Hindi) is if the Earth blocks some of the Sun's light from directly attaining the Moon and the outer area of the Earth's shadow, called the "penumbra", covers all or part of the Moon.

An eclipse does occur any time a planet or moon passes between still another planet, moon or sunlight. This time, all four lunar eclipses in 2020 are penumbral. Unlike the lunar eclipse that accompanied June's whole "strawberry" moon, this eclipse will be obvious in most of the USA, like the lessen 48 and Hawaii, but not Alaska.

It is said that about one in three lunar eclipses are penumbral.

A total lunar eclipse, otherwise known as a "blood moon", occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow.

In a total lunar eclipse, the moon is complete in Earth's shadow and can take on a blood-red hue. It's scheduled to rise at dusk and set at dawn, with the capability to see some of Jupiter's largest moons including Lo, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.

The third lunar eclipse in 2020 will happen on 5 July 2020. Well, the duration of this penumbral lunar eclipse is 2 hrs and 45 minutes. This weekend's celestial event rounds up the rare triple eclipse season that started last June 5.
