Another video that violated Twitch's rules was of a video from Trump's recent rally in Tulsa. But even after that limited punishment, the subreddits moderators "have refused to meet our most basic expectations", the company said. A spokesperson for Twitch said that politicians are held to the same standards as all users on the platform and must adhere to site rules. It was started in 2016 during the election, but numerous popular posts on the forum Monday morning were months old, The Hill reported. Huffman added, "We are committed to working with you to combat the bad actors, abusive behaviors, and toxic communities that undermine our mission and exist exclusively to get in the way of the creativity, discussions, and communities that bring us all to Reddit in the first place".

The announcement by San Francisco-based Reddit comes four months before the presidential election and as tech companies are increasingly at the center of political debates - often ones that anger politicians and spark discussion of government regulation. With almost 800,000 users, the community has been active in cultivating support for Trump since he announced his presidential run in 2015.

Amid the intense scrutiny, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Friday that the company is expanding its policies against calls to incite violence and voter suppression and may add labels to some offending posts by political leaders, such as Trump, that run afoul of its rules.

Today, the channel was temporarily suspended for violating Twitch's rules against hateful conduct and harassment.

Trump joined Twitch, which says it has 15 million daily users, in October previous year. "Any hateful conduct is considered a zero-tolerance violation".

The Trump-focused Reddit community had been nearly entirely abandoned in recent months. One notable difference between the two bans, however, is that the subreddit community wasn't set up by or formally involved with the Trump campaign. Trump's digital director Dan Scavino said on Twitter in 2016 that he monitored the subreddit "daily". Hopefully this level of enforcement will help to make Reddit a more inclusive website, and will help prevent the company itself from profiting off of hate speech.

Raymond James analyst Aaron Kessler noted that YouTube has faced several ad boycotts in the past over hate speech and other objectionable material. Huffman said it's one of about 2,000 newly banned forums - known as subreddits - including at least one prominent progressive community, as part of a broader crackdown aimed at "closing the gap between our values and our policies to explicitly address hate".
