Dodgers pitcher David Price announced he won’t play this season

MLB formally cancels 2020 All-Star Game, says 2022 All-Star Game will be played in LA

Next came Colorado's Ian Desmond, who mixed in some social commentary with his announcement to withdraw from the 2020 season.

"After considerable thought and discussion with my family and the Dodgers, I have decided it is in the best interest of my health and my family's health for me not to play this season", Price said on Twitter. He was originally set to make $32 million in a normal 162-game year, but that total would have been reduced to just under $12 million over the 60-game schedule.

As part of the announcement, Major League Baseball said that the 2022 All-Star Game would be played in Los Angeles. On Saturday, San Francisco catcher Buster Posey said "there's still some reservation on my end" about playing.

Price arrived in Los Angeles as a part of a blockbuster trade that also involved former Red Sox star Mookie Betts. Starting pitcher David Price has informed the team that he will not be suiting up next season.

Price, 34, pitched for the Tigers in 2014 and 2015.

In a later statement, the Dodgers said they fully supported his decision and understood how much it had weighed on him.

"We know he'll be rooting hard for the club every day and look forward to having him back with us in 2021".

Price had already made his own contribution to the Dodgers organization.

Price was 7-5 with a 4.28 ERA for Boston previous year and helped the Red Sox beat the Dodgers in the 2018 World Series.

Price posted a 4.28 ERA across 22 starts with the Red Sox in 2019.

Toss in the fact that Price is looked upon as a leader by past and present teammates - a reputation further cemented by his decision earlier this summer to pay Dodgers minor leaguers left without paychecks during the shutdown.
