It was Jazz player Rudy Gobert's positive test in March that led the National Basketball Association suspending its season in mid-March.
The NBA and the NBPA announced Friday that they have finalized a comprehensive plan for a July 30 restart to the 2019-20 season at a single-site campus at the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.
The NBA is moving ahead with a 22-team restart on July 30, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
How much does the restart mirror OKC's original schedule? "A lot of people in America don't have jobs right now, and we have the opportunity to be a beacon of light, not just for that one particular thing but the social injustices".
The restart will begin with each participating team playing eight "seeding games", as selected from its remaining regular-season matchups. The NBA will be using three arenas at Disney, and other than the two-game slate on the opening night there will be somewhere between four and seven games played each day. If the NBA Finals reach a seventh game, they would be played on October 12.
The Pelicans, who now sit 3 1/2 games out of the eighth seed in the West, will be one of several teams fighting for one of the final spots in the playoffs - or at least an opportunity to get into the play-in tournament against the No. 8 seed. The first round of the playoffs is scheduled to start on August 17 with September 30 the target date for Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
