Jennifer Hudson Shines as Aretha Franklin in ‘Respect’ Trailer
Directed by Liesl Tommy, Respect follows Franklin (played by Hudson)'s life from her childhood days to her worldwide fame.
The first trailer for Respect, the Aretha Franklin biopic starring Oscar victor Jennifer Hudson as the Queen of Soul, has been released ahead of the film reaching cinemas next year. The movie also stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Queen Latifah, Mary J. Blige, Marc Maron, Tate Donovan, Tituss Burgess and Sky Dakota Turner.
And for an even bigger taste, Hudson also covered Aretha for the BET Awards on Sunday night, covering "Young, Gifted & Black".
Franklin passed away in August 2018 at the age of 76.
This is the first look at the new MGM pic about the Queen of Soul since December and gives us more to devour as the Oscar-winning actress tackles the role with all that she has got as she sings the titular song from Franklin. She received 18 Grammy Awards and was nominated a total of 44 times during her prolific career. The singer showed off her powerhouse vocals in the newly released trailer for Respect, which features Jennifer playing the legendary Aretha Franklin.
Respect was set to go wide October 9 but has now shifted to a limited Christmas Day debut.
