And right in that mix, just like many of Florida's other 66 counties, is Polk.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Sunday blamed the increase in coronavirus cases in his state on the increase in young people who have tested positive and a ramp up in testing.

More than 128,000 Americans have died of Covid-19, the highest known death toll of any country in the world.

Governor Jay Inslee said his state of Washington would pause moving into the next stages of reopening its economy as cases there rise.

The worsening contagion in some parts of the USA has created a split-screen effect, with NY and its neighbouring north-eastern states, which were hit hardest initially, reporting declining cases and forging ahead with their reopening plans.

In Arizona, cases have risen by 267% so far in June and jumped by a record 3,857 cases on Sunday, the eighth record-breaking increase this month. That was topped by 212 in Friday's advisory and again Saturday with what was initially reported as 404 cases. As confusing as that data release is from the state, the numbers continue to reflect community spread in the county. The latest fatality was a 100-year-old male.

The list of long-term care facilities with deaths is available here, which is updated weekly.

Florida on Saturday morning reported 9,585 new infections in the last 24 hours, setting a record for new cases for a second-straight day.

The weekend was the first time Polk's overall positivity rate was higher than the state average, which now stands at 7.5%.

The median age of cases among Florida residents was 34, the same as the previous day.

"To do police and put criminal penalties on that is something that is probably gonna, would backfire", Gov. DeSantis said during Friday's press conference.

Ms Kami Kim, director of the division of infectious disease and global medicine at the University of South Florida, said her state's leaders claimed victory too soon after lockdowns were lifted in early May, while sending conflicting messages on face coverings by not wearing masks themselves.

In Polk County, Lakeland continued to see spiking cases with another 98 reported Sunday, pushing the city's total to a county high of 1,148.

Texas shuttered tubing and rafting business on Friday and some beaches in Florida are closing again ahead of next weekend's Fourth of July holiday to try to curb the rising outbreak in those states.

The antibody COVID-19 test results report will be provided once a week and contains county, race and lab information on antibody COVID-19 tests conducted in Florida. The United States has now recorded 2.52 million cases since the pandemic began, according to the Reuters tally.
