Volkswagen withdrew on Wednesday an advertisement posted on its official Instagram page for its Golf cars that it admitted was racist and insulting, saying it would investigate how it came about and draw consequences.

The ad - which has been pulled, but not before spreading and being slammed on social media - shows a black man being forced away from a parked VW by an oversized white hand. before he gets flicked into a restaurant called Petit Colon. "We understand the public outrage at this".

"Without question: the video is inappropriate and tasteless", Volkswagen said in a statement. Both Stackmann and Heitmueller also apologised to individuals who feel that the racist content has personally hurt them through their own history. Because we're horrified, too.

"On behalf of Volkswagen AG, we apologize to the public at large for this film".

After the social media outcry, Volkswagen apologised.

"We at Volkswagen are aware of the historical origins and the guilt of our company during the Nazi regime".

Speaking of history, VW's isn't great when it comes to racism. despite being the world's biggest automaker. "It is an insult to all achievements of the civil rights movement".

"We're ashamed of it and can not explain how it came about".

'That makes it all the more annoying that we made this mistake'. "We are now investigating where the mistake happened and will make that public afterwards".

Last year, VW Chief Executive Officer Herbert Diess apologized for using a phrase that appeared to play on a slogan with right-wing connotations. The phrase sounds similar to "Arbeit macht frei", which was inscribed on the gates of Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps during World War II. The advert, which only aired in China, was produced by the used auto division of Volkswagen's joint venture in China.
