Trump's Mockery of Wearing Masks Divides Republicans

"We have just reached a very sad milestone with the coronavirus pandemic deaths reaching 100,000".

Trump has openly refused to wear a face mask.

President Trump expressed his "heartfelt sympathy" on Thursday as the United States coronavirus death toll passed 100,000. John Cornyn, are facing reelection and the public overwhelmingly supports the need to wear a mask.

Rejecting the president's suggestion that wearing a mask is a sign of personal weakness or political correctness, Ohio's Republican Gov. Mike DeWine said on Twitter this week that "Wearing a face covering is not about politics - it's about helping other people".

Trump retweeted a post on Memorial day by Fox News commentator Brit Hume that pictured Biden in a black mask.

Mr Biden later changed the picture on his official Twitter profile to one of him wearing a mask. I wasn't criticizing him, ' Trump said Tuesday.

On Monday's Memorial Day, a U.S. bank holiday to remember soldiers, Mr Trump and his wife Melania did not wear masks at public events but Mr Biden and his wife Jill did.

'Presidents are supposed to lead, not engage in folly and be falsely masculine, ' Biden said.

The interview, conducted in Mr Biden's garden and with social distancing measures in place, followed Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday in which Mr Biden wore a mask and Mr Trump was bare-faced.

Last night, Mr Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, who are both special advisers to the president, appeared at Cape Canaveral in Florida wearing masks.

'It is a bit peculiar, though, that in his basement, right next to his wife, he's not wearing a mask.

"States should open up ASAP", Trump tweeted Tuesday.

The draft, obtained by ABC News, comes after Twitter earlier this week added fact-checks to two of the president's tweets alleging mail-in ballots will produce fraud, calling the president's content "potentially misleading".

'This macho stuff, for a guy - I shouldn't get going, but it just, it costs people's lives.

Trump is gambling that his call to swiftly end lockdowns will win over undecided voters.
