For those of us who think Donald Trump is the worst possible president to have during a pandemic, Joe Biden would have to work harder to repel our votes than to keep them.
The former vice-president did an interview with Charlamagne tha God, a co-host of the radio show The Breakfast Club.
The black vote has been key to the Biden candidacy.
Loyal support from black voters has been vital to Mr Biden's candidacy.
What exactly did Biden say?
He cited his record with black voters and a repeated endorsement by the NAACP. Biden replied. "Well, I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you're for me or Trump, then you ain't black".
Several black women are among those under consideration, including California Sen. He has already committed to picking a woman as his running mate and is considering several African American contenders who could energize black voters.
Toward the end of the interview, a campaign aide interrupted to say the former vice-president was out of time.
"There is no place for a white man to define blackness in America", Newsome said, adding, "The tonality of Mr. Biden's statement was condescending and insensitive".
"My wife has to go on at 6 o'clock", he said, apparently referring to Jill Biden needing to use their at-home broadcast studio. "I got a message for Joe Biden: I ain't voting for you, but I am black." .
"It don't have nothing to do with Trump", Charlamagne protested.
"I thought to myself, as an African American, been black for 54 years, I was struck by the condescension and the arrogance in his comments", Scott said in a conference call quickly arranged by the Trump campaign.
Let's take a look back at the week in Opinion. Biden said, throwing his hands in the air, seconds before concluding the interview.
The Trump campaign is planning to run a video montage highlighting Biden's Friday morning comment on "The Breakfast Club", a popular black radio program.

If Friday's kerfuffle has staying power, however, he might feel compelled to pick a black female candidate like Kamala Harris or Stacey Abrams - if only to clean up the mess he created. Throughout his entire career, Biden has had a habit of saying sorta-well-intended-but-nevertheless-offensive things, especially when he's trying to ingratiate himself with people.
Biden adviser Symone Sanders said in a tweet that the remarks were made in jest.
"I should not have been so cavalier", he said. "He was making the distinction that he would put his record with the African American community up against Trump's any day". "I don't take it for granted at all and no one should have to vote for any party based on their race, religion or background".
Biden's apology, however, didn't win everyone over.
Senator Tim Scott of SC.
"He's saying that 1.3 million African Americans, that you're not black?"
"I know that the comments have come off like I was taking the African American folks for granted ... but nothing could be further from the truth", Biden said.
Scott defended the president and said he's held to a higher standard when he makes gaffes.
