Alberta has 33 new COVID-19 cases, no new cases in Fort McMurray

An additional 32 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Alberta, bringing the province to a total of 6,800.

AHS also announced Friday maternity services would be reinstated at Calgary's South Health Campus and the High River Hospital effective June 3.

A new advice line has been set up to help Albertans with physical disabilities and injuries connect with rehabilitation advice during the pandemic.

Fifty-four people are in the hospital and six are in intensive care.

Additionally, Shandro announced Friday that Alberta would further expand COVID-19 testing.

"I know the deferral of scheduled services has been hard on patients and families, but it was the right thing to do as part of our overall strategy to protect Albertans from the impact of the pandemic". The toll-free phone line is 1-833-379-0563.

In total, 5,801 Albertans have recovered from COVID-19, the province said.

There is one active case each in Fort McMurray and outside the urban service area, along with 23 recovered cases in the region.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will provide COVID-19 updates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week. Lethbridge County has one recorded recovered case.

A CBC News tally of deaths attributed to coronavirus based on provincial data, regional health information and CBC's journalism stood at 6,342.

Starting Monday, residents and staff at Alberta long-term care facilities will be able to sign up for voluntary testing, even if they are not showing any COVID-19 symptoms.

The province says Albertans who have returned to Canada from other countries must self-isolate.

Alberta suspended all non-urgent and elective surgeries March 18 to ensure the province had enough hospital beds for the peak of the pandemic.
