Maduro: Venezuela to Review Imported Gasoline Price for Domestic Market

First Iranian oil tanker docks in Venezuela

The first Iranian fuel tanker, "Fortune" arrived in Venezuelan territorial waters on May 23, despite the USA warnings. Iran's President Hassan Rouhani warned the USA that Tehran will retaliate if its tankers, which are carrying gasoline and components for its production from oil, face trouble.

The navy on Twitter said its ships were escorting a second tanker, the Forest, which it said entered the country's waters on Monday.

A second Iranian tanker carrying gasoline and oil derivatives has arrived at crisis-stricken Venezuela's main oil refinery, amid escalating tensions between Washington and the two USA -sanctioned countries.

"Iran and Venezuela, both two outliers in the global order, are clearly violating worldwide sanctions on both nations with this transaction", said chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman.

President Nicolas Maduro said he has appointed a team of specialists to consider whether the price of the world's cheapest petrol in Venezuela should rise for drivers in the crisis-stricken nation.

Last month, the oil ministry revealed that the price of Venezuelan crude had fallen to its lowest level in more than two decades, at less than $10 a barrel.

The fourth tanker, the Faxon, was passing north of Venezuela's neighboring dual-island nation of Trinidad and Tobago as of Wednesday afternoon, the Eikon data showed.

"(The US government) has persecuted for more than a year all the ships, all the imports of supplies to produce gasoline in Venezuela. A USA official said earlier this month that President Donald Trump's administration was considering responses to the shipment, prompting the Iranian government to warn Washington against military action.

Maduro's government blames that on USA sanctions, including against state oil company PDVSA, but many analysts say the regime has failed to invest in or maintain infrastructure. The US has also sanctioned El Aissami and accused him of drug trafficking.

"It's something that I think is a global concern as well, not just a US issue".
