Italy’s Serie A given green light to resume on June 20

Official - Italian Football Is Back: Coppa Italia On June 13th & Serie A June 20th

"In the light of this we can say that the championship can start again on June 20".

"Now Italy is starting again and it is right that soccer starts again too".

'If the curve changes and the league has to be stopped again, the Italian football federation has assured me that there exists a plan B - playoffs - and also a plan C - leaving the standings as they are.

"The meeting was very useful", Spadafora said.

Spadafora has confirmed that Serie A is set for crunch talks on Thursday regarding the resumption of the season, with the two dates now being discussed for the season to continue are June 13 and June 20.

Serie A was put on hold on March 9 as part of a nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

These include provisions that state that if one member of a squad or staff tests positive for COVID-19, then the entire team must remain quarantined for 14 days in their training ground as well as the individual who tests positive.

Spadafora said that Italian Cup semi-final matches, between Inter Milan and Napoli and AC Milan and Juventus, could be played the week before the championship returned.

"It would be a good signal because you could watch three important matches free-to-air on public channels", Spadafora added.

All remaining matches this season will be played behind closed doors and with a maximum of 300 people in the stadiums.

"We've worked incessantly with minister for sport Vincenzo Spadafora, the minister for economy and Finance Roberto Gualtieri and minister for health Roberto Speranza, to create secure conditions for professional football to resume".

"If positivity is confirmed, the team group will be kept in an isolated training retreat".

In England, the Premier League announced plans on Thursday to resume on June 17.
