Leverkusen v Rangers Europa League tie postponed "until further notice"

This was confirmed in a statement released by the European football body on Monday.

Northern Ireland's allocation of European places was reduced from four to three before the current season.

At the initial meeting, UEFA made a commitment to try and complete all European and domestic club competitions by the end of June - a prospect that appears increasingly fanciful as leagues across the continent remain suspended with little sign of a resumption.

While most leagues in Europe hope to finish their domestic seasons once restrictions on movement and social contact are lifted, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said last week the season could be lost if play does not start by the end of June.

Carrying the season on beyond 30 June runs the risk of clubs losing their out-of-contract players before matches have been completed, unless a solution can be found.

Gabriel Jesus of Manchester City takes the ball past Daniel Carvajal of Real Madrid during their Champions League round of 16 tie.

"Closely following the development of the current situation, the calendar working group will indicate as soon as possible, and ideally by mid-May, which of the plans can be enacted for the completion of the season without leaving anyone behind".

However, the women's Under 17s Championship finals and the men's European Under 19s Championship are both only postponed, as both tournaments are set to double up as qualifiers for Federation Internationale de Football Association youth World Cup finals.

"It is of paramount importance that even a disruptive event like this epidemic does not prevent our competitions from being decided on the field, in accordance with their rules and that all sporting titles are awarded on the basis of results".

Glentoran are one point further behind in fifth, with sixth-placed Larne two points behind the Glens.

The letter, seen by Reuters, was sent hours after the Belgian league abandoned the season and proclaimed Club Brugge as champions.

European football, now at a standstill because of the coronavirus, is focusing on a restart in July and August with clubs and leagues being told that stopping competitions should "really be the last resort". UEFA said that would require resuming competitions in the second half of June which it acknowledges might not be feasible.
