In October a year ago, Slackreported12 million active daily users, but the company hasn't revealed its total number of users since then.
The creation rate of new Slack workspaces (which the company believed to be created by businesses) increased by hundreds of percentage points from March 12, 2020 to March 25, 2020. Slack told the world through a filing with the SEC that he had added 7,000 new net customers in his current quarter, before the few previous quarters in which he had added about 5,000.
Over the same period, the number of messages sent per user per day increased by approximately 20%. That includes the ability to export emails from Outlook to Slack, as well as preview Word, Powerpoint and Excel files without switching between the tools.
Closer to home, Slack has also observed strong growth.
Teams was launched two years after Slack in 2016 but has overtaken it in terms of daily active users, especially due to its popularity with big firms, as a CNBC survey found last year. These users have been taking nearly 100 million actions per week.
Last month, the company also announced that IBM has picked it up over Microsoft Teams to drive the company's chat communications for its 330,000 employees. Work collaboration or VoIP apps have seen a surge in usage as Microsoft recently reported that Teams saw a 500% increase in usage since the outbreak first began in the US.
