NFL instructs clubs to close team facilities

The league will reassess the restrictions with medical experts during the first week of April. Those plans, however, could be jeopardized by the teams' reluctance to proceed as scheduled.

The New York Giants and the New York Jets, for example, would not be able to access their buildings during draft night, as New Jersey is now under lockdown.

As of right now, the draft is still scheduled to go on as planned, but not in Las Vegas as previously planned. But, if the league's general managers have their way, it won't be on scheduled day of April 23rd. The draft is still expected to be televised.

However, the National Football League reminded clubs that they shouldn't let the shutting down of team facilities stop them from working on their offseason activities.

"The challenges we face are not unique", Goodell said in the letter.

Perhaps that recommendation was the impetus for this Goodell move: According to NFL network, the commissioner sent a memo to the teams on Tuesday, saying all club facilities will close at 6 p.m. Wednesday, with limited exceptions, sources told the NFL Network.

The NFL and its general managers are reportedly in a skirmish over whether to reschedule the draft amid the coronavirus pandemic, which makes team physicals and scouting hard.

"Many businesses and individuals throughout the country are experiencing and addressing similar issues".

With much of the league's operations shutting down in response to the COVID-19 crisis, general managers are reportedly concerned there won't be enough time for teams to do essential pre-draft tasks, such as conducting player physicals.

As of Wednesday morning, more than 55,000 cases have been reported in the US, with 801 deaths and 354 people recovered, according to Johns Hopkins University, which has been tracking the outbreak using combined data sources.
