Google says it is developing a nationwide coronavirus website

"Google has 1,700 engineers working on this right now".

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tells people to seek testing if they have certain symptoms of the flu-like illness caused by the coronavirus - fever, cough and trouble breathing - and if they have traveled recently to a coronavirus outbreak area or have been in close contact with someone who's been infected.

When President Trump announced Friday that Google was developing a website for Americans to find out where they could be tested for the new coronavirus, the details of the project were still unclear.

"I want to thank Google". It might be possible that Donal Trump has asked tech companies to make an app and a web-based mechanism which can help to see coronavirus symptoms and nearby test centres.

According to a recent New York Times report, Kushner met with Verily's CEO this week to discuss how the company could contribute to the administration's fumbling coronavirus response, which so far has been ripe with top-level miscommunications, casual xenophobia, and massive testing delays.

"We are going from somewhat manual, relatively slow phases, to a testing regimen that we can test many tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of individuals per week, and maybe even more", said Adm. Brett Giroir, who is leading the Department of Health and Human Services' efforts in coordinating coronavirus testing.

On Saturday, VP Pence clarified the situation a bit by saying that Google (or Verily - because who knows at this point) would have a pilot version of the screening site ready for a test in the Bay Area by tomorrow, Monday the 16th.

Retailers including Walmart, Target, CVS and Walgreens are among those supporting the coronavirus-testing initiative. "We are collaborating with organizations like Quest Diagnostics and Labcorp as part of this initiative, and local organizations to determine what will work best".

Trump spoke to CEOs of grocery and food companies on Sunday and urged them to keep store shelves well-stocked. "We were initially planning to focus on highest risk populations, which includes healthcare workers-but this was not exclusively intended for them", the company said. He previously served as Washington bureau chief for The Jerusalem Post, where he led coverage of the Iran nuclear talks, the Syrian refugee crisis and the 2016 United States presidential campaign.

He confirmed that Alphabet's Verily is working in collaboration with California state, local and federal health authorities to help establish testing sites in the San Francisco Bay Area, and on an online tool to increase risk screening and testing for people at high risk of COVID-19.

The President detailed a containment strategy for the pandemic while emphasizing that the federal government is working with Google to develop a portal that would help Americans take advantage of the country's testing facilities.

But after the announcement, there were questions about whether the White House had overstated the readiness and the scope of the website. According to the company-wide memo, the CEO said that "a planning effort is underway" for Verily to "aid in the COVID-19 testing effort in the U.S.".
