Coronavirus: Redbridge Council suspending some waste collection services to keep staff save

Recycling centres have been closed by Kent County Council

"We want to keep our usual kerbside waste collections going for as long as possible, but we're anticipating challenges in resourcing this service as the coronavirus situation continues and are prepared to make changes if the system starts to strain".

The council said extra waste could be taken to household waste recycling centres but the Advertiser has asked RMBC to clarify this position following the new restrictions on movement announced last night by the government.

"If the bins aren't collected the rubbish can build up and end up overflowing - we could then end up with more disease", she said.

However, normal kerbside bin collections will continue to take place for the time being. That gradually faded away.

However, recycling collections will be suspended until further notice.

West Sussex County Council runs 11 Household Waste Recycling Sites where residents are able to dispose of bulky unwanted items and materials.

With people staying at home all day during the coronavirus pandemic, household waste levels are expected to increase.

In Sheffield, Veolia has temporarily stopped green waste collections and warned other bin services may be disrupted as staff self-isolated.

Other recycling and waste can be disposed of as normal. Please do not squash waste down into your bin after you've put it in there as this can prevent it falling out during the emptying process.

"In order to protect members of the public and employees, all 16 recycling sites will be closed until they can be operated safely".

Carron McDiarmid says Highland Council is doing its best to maintain regular waste collections.
