Samsung launches its second foldabe, the Galaxy Z Flip, for $1,380

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip flies off shelves on first day

The Galaxy Z Flip is available in Mirror Purple and Mirror Black.

Last year was supposed to be the year of the foldable, but things didn't quite turn out the way everyone expected.

The report from the buyback price comparison service SellCell reveals that 58% more Samsung users have gotten rid of their old phones in the weeks that preceded the Feb 11 launch than the previous year.

That's one interpretation of what foldable phones could be, but it's not the only one out there.

When phones with foldable displays like the Galaxy Z Flip were in the form of an initial concept, their main added value was perceived as the ability to carry a big screen in a compact package.

Samsung has lowered the price of its new foldable phone to 1.6 million won.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 has only just made its pre-order appearance with deals hitting the virtual shelves just days ago.

Inside, it's still a phone, though very much in line with what modern phones are, albeit a little reduced.

It also comes with 256GB of storage and a 3300 mAh battery, it has a 10 megapixel front facing camera for Selfies and on the back there is a 12 megapixel camera for photos and videos. It's the form-factor that should get your entire attention, with a special design that makes it a big phone that can snap into your pocket, and yet still keeps some of those niceties we like in phones today, such as fingerprint security, facial recognition, mobile payment support, and wireless charging. The phones also take advantage of 5G which allows for hyperFast speeds.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip costs R29 999.

If you still want to get your hands on the Galaxy Z Flip, you can try buying it later today or in the next couple of days through the widget below.

The bonus content will include "behind-the-scenes footage, companion stories and other bonus content - much of it filmed by the Samsung Galaxy S20's new camera", notes TechCrunch.
