MWC is a yearly tech event hosted in Barcelona, Spain, since 2006. It's the world's biggest phone show, and lots of companies show off their latest phones at the event. MWC 2020 was scheduled to take place in Barcelona, Spain between February 24 and 27. Per a report from Bloomberg, GSMA CEO John Hoffman said that it's now "impossible" for the event to continue due to rising concerns and effects of Coronavirus. "While the GSMA confirm some large exhibitors have decided not to come to the show this year with others still contemplating next steps, we remain more than 2,800 exhibitors strong", GSMA said in a February 9 announcement.

Actually, as a result of Corona virus unfold in China, many nice corporations had opted out of this program.

The list of companies that chose to exercise caution and skip the trade show included Facebook, Amazon, LG, Intel, Ericsson, Vivo, ZTE, Nvidia, Cisco, Sony, HMD, Volvo, Orange, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, McAfee, BT and HMD Global, according to Wired.

Organizers were caught between risking potential backlash over public health concerns if they went ahead or facing big financial losses if they canceled, said Stephen Mears, a research analyst at Futuresource Consulting.

Deutsche Telekom had said it would be "irresponsible" to send its staff to a large gathering with so many global guests.

"The impact on small companies who have invested a disproportionate amount of their budgets and time on this event should not be under-estimated".

The first MWC, or "Pan Europe Digital Cellular Radio", as it was called then, was organized in 1987 in Brussels, Belgium.

The mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, said earlier that she wanted to send a "calm message, quot;, insisting that the city was ready to organize the event, while Spanish health officials reiterated that there was no reason to suspend the MWC".
