LeBron James to miss Lakers game Thursday with sore groin

Zion Williamson Le Bron James Lakers Pelicans

The No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft has given the New Orleans Pelicans a building block for the future that they should be able to build around.

The Los Angeles Lakers squared off against the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night, giving National Basketball Association fans around the globe a peek at what a first-round playoff matchup between the two teams might look like.

Williamson was special on Tuesday night, but James was better.

Leading up to Tuesday's anticipated first matchup between the two, the 19-year-old Williamson talked about how he grew up as a fan of James.

"I think it was only a matter of time".

"But in today's game, when it's a track race, it's a fast pace, it's high tempo; it fits his game perfectly".

However closely the National Basketball Association may want to link James and Williamson, both players said following the game that they have yet to have a conversation. "It works perfectly, and our game is so many possessions now, so much space, it's ideal for his game, so he's doing exceptionally well with that".

"It was a great experience", Williamson said. "You know, he's just an incredible player to watch". His resume speaks for himself. "He came out here and did what he had to do to help his team get the win". When he missed 27 games after straining his groin in December 2018, the Lakers season spiralled downhill and they failed to make the playoffs. That's what matters to me, is that my teammates are enjoying them. "Very explosive. He's going to continue to get better and better as he goes on".

The Lakers also said that Anthony Davis was listed as probable with a sore left elbow. Danny Green sealed it for Los Angeles with his fifth 3-pointer with 51 seconds to play.

Davis is the leading scorer and rebounder in New Orleans franchise history, making six All-Star teams during his tenure.

It was a fun game with several big dunks, including James' slam over Josh Hart.

Lakers: Davis gave the Lakers a scare midway through the fourth quarter when he hit his left hand on the glass while blocking Nicolo Melli's shot.

The Lakers led by as many as 13 points shortly after halftime before the Pelicans reeled off a 19-4 run, powered by Brandon Ingram, Jrue Holiday and Derrick Favors to take an 82-81 lead with 3:26 remaining.

Alex Caruso once again provided a spark for the Lakers, most notably in the fourth quarter. Caruso finished with eight points and eight assists.

"The kid is special, we all know that", James said, according to Sky Sports.
