Ericsson to skip mobile trade show over coronavirus

After an extensive internal risk assessment, Ericsson has made a decision to take further precautionary measures by withdrawing from MWC Barcelona 2020, the largest event in the telecom industry. The company said in a press conference release earlier today that everything planned for the event would instead be shown at local "Ericsson Unboxed" events. CEO Borje Ekholm said the decision was not taken lightly, but health and safety needed to be the highest priority. "We regret not attending, but believe this is the right decision", it added. It also announced measures to help prevent the spread of the virus across the event's three main venues, including changing microphones between speakers and advising all attendees to adopt a "no-handshake policy". Ericsson is one of the leading telecom companies that participates in MWC at a significant scale.

The virus was first detected in Wuhan, China back in December but it has quickly spread to other regions.
