Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho: I'm not jealous of Manchester City, Liverpool

Tottenham close to sealing loan deal for Benfica’s Gedson Fernandes

Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes is due to have a medical at Tottenham on Monday before an 18-month loan to the Premier League club.

The Independent linked the Belgian forward with a move to Spurs this month, with Jose Mourinho's men short of options in the final third following Harry Kane's hamstring injury.

Asked if this is his toughest job since the Portuguese club, Mourinho said: "It is the second time I get a team mid-season, just the second time".

However, Jose Mourinho appears to have leveraged his relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes - who also represents Fernandes - as Sky Sports are one of several outlets claiming the player is set for a move to White Hart Lane.

"You can feel that he is coming".

The defender began this season in the team, starting the first three Premier League matches at right-back under Mauricio Pochettino.

"We expect him to be out until, I don't know, mid-April, end of April, May, next season I don't know".

Spurs are in negotiations with Inter Milan over Eriksen, who was booed by some supporters when he was substituted in the defeat by Liverpool.

Former boss Mauricio Pochettino openly said winning the FA Cup can not compare to finishing in the top four, but Mourinho has always chased silverware.

"That's the way I thought I was going to develop the team. But again I repeat, we always respect their reaction".

Mourinho was speaking to the press ahead of his side's FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night when he suggested that Spurs could not compete with Liverpool and City due to the players and resources they have at their disposal.

Tottenham have been looking to strengthen their squad this month after being hit by a double blow with the news that Moussa Sissoko and Harry Kane have been ruled out until April with serious injuries. "At the moment he is my player and we need every player".
