Shoulder injury rules Shikhar Dhawan out of New Zealand T20Is

India level series as Australia fall short in Rajkot run chase

Prithvi Shaw has been named as the replacement for the injured opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan as Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand.

Dhawan injured his shoulder during the third ODI against Australia in Bengaluru while fielding and had to be rushed for an MRI scan.

The report further adds that Dhawan's X-Ray and scan reports were not encouraging and a replacement for the Delhi opener is being considered by the management. The Hindu reported that Dhawan had hurt the AC joint on the shoulder which is between the collar bone and shoulder blade.

The Indian team are already in New Zealand and will play five-match T20I series from January 24.

Rohit needed four runs to get to the landmark and the senior India opener got to it in the final ball of the first over of India's innings to sit behind skipper Virat Kohli and South Africa's AB de Villiers. Young Mumbai-lad Prithvi Shaw has been named as Dhawan's replacement in the ODI squad after his impressive knock of 150 against New Zealand A recently.

The first two T20Is against New Zealand will be played in Auckland, while the next two matches will be played in Hamilton and Wellington respectively.

Last time Dhawan missed an India series was the West Indies T20Is at home in December a year ago owing to an injury and Mayank Agarwal, who opens for India in Test cricket, was named his replacement.
