Patrick Stewart cements place in Hollywood

Star Trek Picard Worf

Following the premiere, new episodes of Star Trek: Picard's 10-episode first season will be available weekly on Thursdays, exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers in the U.S.

Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President of Original Content for CBS All Access revealed the good news during the Television Critics Association presentation.

Star Trek: Picard will follow the continuing adventures of the former captain of the USS Enterprise, Jean-Luc Picard, as played by the iconic Sir Patrick Stewart, 20 years after the events of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

On Sunday evening, the network announced that it had renewed Star Trek: Picard for a second season. "We're thrilled to announce plans for a second season earlier than the collection' debut, and we're assured that Star Trek followers and new viewers alike can be captured by the stellar forged and artistic crew's meticulously crafted story when it premieres on January 23".

Seldom do series get greenlit for a second season before a studio is able to determine the success of the first season and whether spending more money on it is worth its while. But with Picard in the show's very title, you'd have to assume that, at the very least, Patrick Stewart would be returning.

The venerated actor, best known for his roles in Star Trek and the X-Men films, placed his hands and feet in cement outside the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, in a tradition dating back to 1927.

Star Trek: Picard will see favorites Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Jeri Ryan, and Brent Spiner reprising their roles.
