The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers face off on Tuesday at Staples Center in what could be one of the most emotional National Basketball Association games ever played after the tragic death of National Basketball Association legend Kobe Bryant.

It was Sunday morning when news broke of Kobe Bryant losing his life in a helicopter crash en route to the Mamba Sports Academy, where he was set to serve as a coach for young campers in attendance.

The Lakers organisation hasn't made a public statement about Bryant's death, choosing to mourn in private. "I promise you I'll continue your legacy man! Please give me the strength from the heavens above and watch over me!"

Starting at 7 p.m., TNT will feature an hour-long tribute to Bryant, who starred for the Lakers for 20 years, before the Celtics-Heat game. "This is a very hard time for all of us".

However, according to Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, there has been no confirmation that the game will be played.

While Bryant's death in a helicopter crash in Calabasas sent shock waves across the National Basketball Association, games in other cities went on as scheduled on Sunday, despite the emotional impact on many players. After trading for Davis and teaming him with James in the offseason, the Lakers are all but certain to end their franchise-record playoff drought at six seasons.

Bryant won five championships and reached seven NBA Finals during his two decades with the Lakers.
