Model Gigi Hadid shows up for jury duty in Weinstein rape trial

Harvey Weinstein Gigi Hadid

Gigi Hadid, 24, was one of 120 potential jurors who showed up to a Manhattan courtroom on January 13 to fill out a questionnaire to possibly participate in the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault trial, but according to NY criminal attorney Julie Rendelman, who spoke EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife, she will most likely not get selected and it all has to do with her celebrity status.

The 24-year-old model was called to Manhattan Supreme Court on Monday, along with 120 other potential jurors, CNN reported, to serve in the trial for the disgraced film producer. Just 35 were asked to return to court on Thursday for the second phase of jury selection, in which they will be asked more detailed questions about their backgrounds. "Nobody is immune from being called to jury duty and being chosen as a juror", Rendelman said.

The beauty is believed to have said that although she has met Weinstein before, as well as potential witness and Weinstein accuser Salma Hayek, she can still judge the case impartially and without prejudice.

Hadid's presence added flair to what has been a tedious jury selection process. She said, "I think I'm still able to keep an open mind on the facts". The panel ruled against a plaintiff who claimed he was seriously scalded in the shower by a blast of hot water.

Both sides hope to deliver opening statements before the end of the month.

Justice James Burke denied the request, noting that he expected the protest would not be the last.

If convicted, Weinstein could be sentenced to life in prison. Last Tuesday, they were introduced as a group to Weinstein and were read a list of names that could come up at trial, including actresses Salma Hayek, Charlize Theron and Rosie Perez. Then proceeded to ask the prospective jurors if any of them knew them personally.

Since 2017, more than 80 women, including many famous actresses, have accused him of sexual misconduct dating back decades.

Molly's tweets read: "Gigi Hadid was among 120 New Yorkers summoned for jury duty this morning at Harvey Weinstein's rape and sexual assault trial because mark my words, there will not be a tiresome moment".

Weinstein has not entered a plea in the Los Angeles case, which will be tried later.
