McLaren reveals launch date after Norris 'leak'

McLaren launch set after 'accidental' Norris reveal

Speaking to the team associated with the conference, Norris inquired about the launch date for the brand-new vehicle that he as well as Carlos Sainz will certainly drive in 2020.

In a live broadcast from the MTC, following a brief look at some of the historic McLaren racing cars on show, the Briton "crashed" a meeting at which the launch of the MCL35 was being discussed.

McLaren is the third team this year to confirm their launch plans for the 2020 season, the new vehicle will be unveiled two days after Ferrari launches its auto and one day before Alpha Tauri.

"I heard it was on the February 13", said Norris, before getting some quietly hesitant responses from those involved in the meeting.

The live feed was then turned off, adding to the intrigue about whether it was a planned stunt or Norris had revealed the details accidentally.

McLaren will hope its 2020 vehicle, to be piloted by Norris and Carlos Sainz, can build on the success of last year's campaign which saw it finish as the best team in the midfield, a position which has become known as "best of the rest" behind Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.
