Bennett gets Black Caps recall

Five Indian Cricketers Who Were Ignored For The New Zealand T20I Series

New Zealand have announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against India in which they have recalled right-arm pacer Hamish Bennett.

The 32-year-old Bennett is now the joint third-highest wicket-taker in New Zealand's ongoing domestic T20 competition with selector Gavin Larsen saying the pacer has been rewarded for his form.

He last played worldwide cricket in May 2017, when the Black Caps navigated a one-day tri-series with Bangladesh and Ireland without several regulars who were busy with Indian Premier League commitments.

Recently Bennett bowled brilliantly in T20 Super Smash, taking 14 wickets with an average of 18.42, 7.06 economy.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has named a 13-man squad, which consists of a number of Kiwi internationals.

Skipper Kane Williamson has also returned to the T20I squad after missing the series against England in November past year. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner are the two spinners in this squad. With that, he is also clever with his variations and that is what makes him a well-round T20 bowler in the squad.

De Grandhomme will play the first two games in Auckland and third in Hamilton, with Bruce available for the matches in Wellington and Mt. Maunganui.

"The next few weeks will be really intense for our elite male cricketers and we're fully aware of the challenges ahead", Larsen said.

New Zealand T20 squad: Kane Williamson (captain), Hamish Bennett, Tom Bruce, Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill, Scott Kuggeleijn, Daryl Mitchell, Colin Munro, Ross Taylor, Blair Tickner, Mitchell Santner, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee.

"We see both Daryl and Jimmy as important all-rounders in the T20 format", Larsen said.

This series will be a huge series for both the teams as India and New Zealand will want to win this series and consider a plan for the World T20 campaign which will be played in Australia later this year. "With a travelling squad of just 13 and the need to balance the options for the series, Daryl gets this opportunity against India as a reward for his consistent form for the Black Caps", Larsen said.

Tom Bruce (c), Todd Astle, Tom Blundell (wk), Mark Chapman, Jacob Duffy, Kyle Jamieson, Cole McConchie, Jimmy Neesham, Ollie Newton, Ajaz Patel, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, and George Worker.
