Amazon fires employees who leaked personal customer data like emails, phone numbers

Amazon He fired several employees after they shared the client's email address and phone numbers with a third party "in violation of our policies". About six months ago, there was a similar theft. In the email, Amazon stated it's against company policy for workers to share data with third parties.

Following the launch of allegations of theft, a statement made by the Amazon side, users' e-mail addresses and phones outside the information was accepted to be leaked. But little else is known about the employees, when the information was shared and with whom, and how many customers are affected. The company has identified the employee and terminated him, the email says.

Headline updated to clarify that an unknown number of employees were laid off.

Amazon, whose data violations report card was broken in 2019, did not start well in 2020.

Amazon confirmed the incident in an email to TechCrunch.

In a separate incident, Amazon said this week that it fired four employees at Ring, one of the retail giant's smart camera and door bell subsidiaries.

The move reflects Amazon's recent efforts to further protect personal customer data. In late 2018, the company similarly admitted to exposing customer email addresses.

The incident happened with a Tennessee family who had installed Amazon-owned Ring video camera in the room of their three daughters to keep an eye on them and stay close as the mother worked night shifts as a nurse, reports FOX17. Amazon also refrained from making detailed statements about the issue.
