Trump Holds Private Meeting with UK's Boris Johnson

"I think Boris is very capable and I think he'll do a good job", Trump said in London, where he is attending a meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders.

"So the reality is the evidence is there and the anxiety that we have about the NHS under a Boris Johnson regime and his relationship with Trump causes us extreme concern". "Never even thought about it honestly", said Trump, who is in Britain for the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit.

Johnson's Conservatives are leading opinion polls, but the rival Labour party has sought to whip up public opinion against Trump, who is deeply unpopular in Britain. The US leader has been outspoken in his support for Britain's looming exit from the European Union, which Johnson has promised to deliver in January after years of turmoil.

Labour and campaign groups have accused the government of plotting to sell off the health service as part of a future trade deal with the US.

Labour has sought to capitalise on Trump's visit by repeating its claims that Johnson would open up Britain's state-run National Health Service (NHS) as part of a U.S. trade deal after Brexit.

Arriving for the formal NATO talks in Watford, north of London, Johnson denies he was trying to avoid being seen with Trump.

In the past, Trump has also denied he's interested in getting involved in the NHS.
