Super Mario Maker 2 Is Getting A Master Sword Power-Up

Super Mario Maker 2

Fortunately, however, while the release date remains a mystery, Nintendo has given fans a surprise bonus to keep them busy until the launch of Breath of the Wild 2. The latter will actually transform your Mario into Link (only in the Super Mario Bros. theme, just like the first game), but it's not just a skin! Better yet, the update will be completely free of charge.

Super Mario Maker 2's Version 2.0 update arrives with new Zelda features and more on December 5. Mario will transform into Link, equipped with a new set of moves like attacking with a sword, shooting arrows, and dropping bombs. There are even different coloured Link tunics for use in multiplayer. Let's hope that Nintendo doesn't stop at just adding the Master Sword because gamers have been asking for a Zelda Maker for years. The new down-thrust move will defeat usually protected enemies like spike-covered Spinies that can easily kill Mario.

The 2.0 update also adds new enemies and items such as Spike, Pokey, the Frozen Coin, P Block and Dash Block. If used in the snow environment, Spike will toss snowballs instead!

Shipping alongside the Master Sword is a new game mode called Ninji Speedruns. Players will be able to compete for the best times and earn cosmetics for their Miis in the process. The Ninji Ghosts that appear are selected from player data at a similar performance level, so players can gradually improve their performance by running the course alongside other players' Ninji Ghosts.
