Student, resource officer shot at Wisconsin school

Oshkosh West HS shooting

The incident followed one in a suburban Milwaukee high school Monday, in which police said a student at Waukesha South High School refused to drop a gun and was shot by a police officer, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The shooting happened at Oshkosh West High School. "We received information that there was one student that was injured as well as a school resource officer", says Office Kate Mann, Oshkosh Police Dept.

This incident is being turned over to the State Department of Criminal Investigations, police say. "We're not that big of a city and we know pretty much everyone in the city and we know this affects a lot of people in our community".

The school was locked down. The school is now locked down and parents can be reunited with their children at Perry Tipler Middle school. Parents can meet with their children there.

Oshkosh West is on lockdown.

A senior identified only as Josh told the Journal Sentinel that he heard the gunshots. Authorities have not said if other students were in the classroom during the ensuing standoff.

Action 2 News spoke with Pastor John E. Seelman at nearby Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Students evacuated from Oshkosh West High School after an officer-involved shooting. It's a parent's "worst nightmare". A threat assessment was conducted by a San Luis Coastal Unified School District psychologist and administration on the students involved.

Just before 11 a.m., school buses were lined up outside the school and streets were blocked off.

No innocents were harmed as a good guy with a gun shot an armed student Monday morning at Wisconsin's Waukesha High School.

"Only one student was injured", police said on Facebook.

The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital - and listed in stable condition.

No other students were injured.

Parents and students may reunite at Tipler if they have identification on them.

"These are really tragic incidents but it's also true we have seen incidents where there has been mass tragedy", Kaul said.

The school resource officer "was forced to discharge" his firearm and officers immediately administered life-saving attention to the student. He said the resource officer went to the classroom to confront the teen and move other students in the room to safety.

School shootings have occasionally shone a spotlight on the response by guards and school resource officers.
