Pep Guardiola welcomes 'fantastic' Leicester into Premier League title race

Jonjo Shelvey celebrates scoring their second goal

Former France Under-21 global Laporte has been a massive miss for City this season after being taken off on a stretcher during the 4-0 Premier League win over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium on August 31.

City's decision not to sign a centre-back to replace club legend Vincent Kompany came under further scrutiny following Laporte's injury.

Cape Town - Manchester City centre-back John Stones is determined to keep fighting for the Premier League title after a poor result at the weekend.

While Manchester City have been hoping for the Reds to slip up at some point in order to catch up, it seems they've forgotten to focus on themselves, as they dropped points to Steve Bruce's Newcastle United early on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola would hold his pre-Burnley press conference on Monday afternoon with the Spaniard acknowledging what a tough place Burnley is to visit.

"Right now, that's why he plays".

Asked about the midfield, he added: "I prefer (Ilkay) Gundogan and Rodri in this position". "To do that away is incredible".

"We need to try to correct it for Tuesday night. We did it again but unfortunately, we couldn't win".

"What Sean Dyche teams play, the way he plays they do ideal, so they have incredible success in the last years in the Premier League doing what they have done", Guardiola said.

While the result means City now need a handful of favours from Liverpool if they are to retain their title, Guardiola claimed the squad's confidence has not taken a knock following two consecutive draws in a week. They are so good with the second balls and the set pieces.

"He is not ready for the derby but after the derby we will see", Guardiola said.

"In the situation we are we can not think about the people who are in front".

"So I think we have to think about what we have to do to win the games and play quite similar to how we played in our [previous] games, especially the last one against Newcastle or the last 20, 25 minutes against Chelsea".
